Energy Trader

We are a small and established company in the utility sector. Our company is currently recruiting an experienced energy trader. You will be part of a growing company, which you will be able to reduce overall risk on the company. You will also have the opportunity to advance within the company and build a team around you.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking high quality assessments of a wide range of potential complex transactions, carrying out modeling and analysis as necessary, advising upon the risk-related issues associated with the proposals and, where necessary, providing constructive challenge to help ensure the proposals are robust;
  • Advising on, and directly contributing to, ongoing system and model development for the measurement of risk, and carry out model reviews to help ensure best practice is followed;
  • Assessing and advising on quantitative risk-related aspects of commercial strategies as required;
  • Working with other team members in both Risk, and the trading and portfolio management teams.
  • Communicating the results of analyses clearly, including to senior management, in a way which adds significant value to business decisions.

Person Specification

  • Very strong, practical and business focused, analytical, quantitative and modeling skills;
  • Significant experience in a high calibre, commercially focused, analysis/modeling environment, coupled with a proven track record in proactively developing and delivering, successful solutions;
  • A strong educational background with a degree, preferably at advanced level, in a relevant subject (e.g. operational research, economics with a strong quantitative element);
  • Knowledge and experience of midstream/downstream power and gas markets and of associated risk management and valuation would be advantageous:
  • A good practical understanding of a range of potential analytical techniques and approaches, and the ability to apply them to the specific business issue at hand
  • Very high Excel skills
  • Good communication skills - must be able to understand others' perspectives and relate complex ideas to different groups, including senior management.
  • The ability to constructively challenge proposals to help ensure they are robust, whilst maintaining excellent working relationships
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team, flexibly handling a wide range of potential issues.

Salary Package: £30,000 - £40,000 plus bonus
